I Believe

This Sunday began our new series on the Apostle’s Creed. This will be our chance to take a deep dive as a congregation on the thing that makes us followers of Jesus— the set of beliefs that make us more than just folks who are trying to be good.

These sets of beliefs are simple— we believe God created all things.

These sets of beliefs hold us to a high standard— if we believe God created all things, that means we have to treat all things with a good deal of respect.

These sets of beliefs are aspirational— do I believe all things have been marked as, “created by God?” Really? Everything? EveryONE?

But these beliefs give us sidelines within which we can live a life to the fullest. These guideposts help us know where we are going and how God will lead us there. We see the world around us and may at times feel as if there is no rudder—but these sets of beliefs help us know exactly where we sit in al of creation.

My prayer for you and for all of us is that though we may not understand all of creation, we do know that the God who created all things sees us as God’s very own child. That we are known by this God as an artist knows their painting or a poet knows every stanza. Yes, all of creation was made by God— that includes you and it includes me.

And so we have a choice—will we believe we are children of God? Knowing that we are seen as heirs of the whole heavenly Kingdom? Will we begin to see all of creation as God’s own craftsmanship?

I want to believe all of these things. I know that once we all believe all of these things, the world around us will begin to look a lot more like the Kingdom of God.

May it begin with me.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Michael
