Lead like Deborah
The question then becomes, what sort of leader will you be? Modern leaders absorb praise and they deflect responsibility. I think that if we are going to be Christians who lead like Christ, it will require us to lead with the sort of care, empathy, and view towards greatness that Deborah and my friend Gretchen have.
Like a girl
In our baptism and in joining of a community, we gain a group of people who will standby with us. In my church, when someone is baptized, we promise to “surround them with a community of love and forgiveness,” which sounds really pretty, right? In practice? It’s nitty and it is gritty. It requires standing by when marriages fall apart or when they come together. It requires being there for the first day of sobriety and the next first day of sobriety. It’s crying when you’re crying, it’s laughing when you’re laughing.
Time is a thief
“time is a thief, and our Holy Days [like Palm Sunday and in some ways, youth Sunday] is like making that thief come back and return what he has taken.”
Sharing your faith
For us? I want us to see sharing our faith as our chance to make sure someone else feels you want them along for this journey with Jesus.
